The Shallow Water Special K-Field Modulator is limited 500 units, a release that celebrates the 10,000 total units milestone for Fairfield Circuitry. In their own words, "We wanted to do something that we have never done, and that we will most likely never do again. Something different, something that speaks to the spirit that initially inspired the KFM."
Each enclosure is hand burned to play off the collisional possibilities of the themes of fire and water and to introduce an aesthetic aspect of chance and variation into the design process to mirror the ever wavering and often unpredictable sonics of the circuit itself.
The human manipulation of time in the burning process yields a variety of different looks and textures, some darker and more brooding, some lighter and more nuanced, making each enclosure distinct, much like the way the circuit of the KFM itself can be manipulated by affecting time in the sonic domain to produce either heavy-handed shifting murk or lighter effervescent ripples of modulation, with each use case and end result shifting depending on the individual interests/desires of the user.

Before the reflection is the experience. Before phenomena—or even noumena—is that which is undefinable. That which has never been heard, that which will never be heard again, and that which has always been heard but never listened to.
K-Field (Simulation mathematics): an undefined, two-dimensional, non-linear field where past and future forces interact at irregular intervals. Shallow Water generates this K-Field by randomly modulating a short time delay to create unexpected shifts in pitch. The result is this non cyclical vibrato/chorus/flanger-type thing favouring old tape flavours.
The water is shallow on this side of the pool. Do not dive, and you will not drown.
