Local guitar-builder Alder & Main was born just a few blocks down the road from our shop in Telluride, Colorado. In their condo's parking garage, husband-and-wife duo Jamie and Christianna Catchpole began experimenting with fine tone woods and exploring their own intriguing guitar designs. Now relocated to a proper wood shop in nearby Norwood, Colorado, Alder & Main have really begun to hone their craft. Using the finest materials and components available, each Alder & Main guitar is built by hand with the utmost care and attention to detail, right here in the San Juan Mountains of Southern Colorado.
In 2019, Alder & Main collaborated with Jesse Hensley of NC-based band Big Something. Hensley is known as a guitar builder and tinkerer who has put together some cool partscasters of his own. His #1 guitar is has a one-off chambered strat body from Warmoth. As the story goes, Warmoth has refused to build another one, so in 2019 Alder & Main attempted to recreate that body of Aged Pine.
The "Little Something" was inspired by that experience. It has a fully-chambered Mahogany body with a gorgeous two-piece Spalted Maple top. The volume knob is located as close to the bridge pickup as possible (just like on Jesse's original), and the selector switch is also easy to reach.
From there, Alder & Main selected only the finest parts and components to ensure the Little Something is a versatile, musical guitar. It features a bolt-on Birdseye Maple neck from Warmoth with a 9.5"-radius Rosewood fingerboard and dot position inlays. For pickups, the Little Something sports Arcane Triple Clone humbuckers. These pickups are a faithful recreation of the original P.A.F. design, and they produce warm, full sound with smooth sustain and plenty of bite when you need it. The rest of the hardware are all top quality products, so the result is a great playing guitar.
