With bell-like overtones, harmonic complexity, and enhanced sustain, the 12-string electric guitar creates a lush, ethereal sound that stands out in any mix. The octave and doubled strings create a natural chorus effect, perfect for adding richness, chime, and brilliance to lead or rhythm parts.
From the early days, Paul Reed Smith always focused on expanding the model lineup and breadth of offerings. It's no surprise PRS has blended 12-string tonal richness with their precise craftsmanship, advanced hardware, and cutting-edge electronics. Like other PRS guitars, the 12-strings are over the top and chock full of features. Compared to others, PRS 12-strings are comfortable, approachable, and easy to play. They are renowned for tuning stability, and in general Paul Reed Smith pushes the electric 12-string concept beyond other builders.
This Custom 22 XII (22/12) was made in 2005. It has a stunning carved Quilt Maple 10-Top over a Mahogany back. For pickups, it sports two humbuckers specifically designed 12-strings and a Fralin single coil in the middle position. This configuration yields a wide range of electric 12-string tone. With the contours and curves of PRS's classic double-cutaway body, the Custom 22/12 feels comfortable and manageable. Even though the headstock is big enough for 6 additional tuning machines, the guitar is only 39.5" long, and it weighs just a hair over 8 lbs. It balances properly on a strap, so neck diving is not an issue!
This 2005 Custom 22 XII is in nice condition all around. It shows some minor playwear, and there is a cosmetic blemish on the top, just an inch or so past the bridge, as well as a few bumps on the back (see photos). It features all of its original parts and components, and it has an extremely fast low setup. This 12-string plays like a dream, and the pickups give you such a diverse palette of sounds. Plus, the 10-Top and Violin Amber Sunburst are absolutely gorgeous—everything you'd expect from Paul Reed Smith!
This 2005 PRS Custom 22 XII includes its original case and hang tag.
