In the imported, off-shore-made guitar market, there are lot of options—both big and small. While the big brands might have familiar names, their guitars don't always come at the same level of quality as smaller, more hands-on companies.
Raven West Guitars (formerly just "Raven" guitars in the '80s and '90s) is about as small as it gets. With a simple strategy of selling good-sounding, good-playing imported guitars directly on Ebay, Raven West Guitars are known for being great bargains with quality, features, and aesthetics not often found at prices so accessible. Raven West Guitars are sourced from different locations (Korea, China, and Indonesia), but they are received, approved, and set up in the USA to be consistent, dependable instruments. The end result is generally surprising, especially considering the price point.
This mid-200s Raven West Guitars LP Custom is pretty straightforward: carved top, single cutaway, two humbuckers—you know the routine! Visually, this is a striking guitar, and that's true of many RWGs. Its carved top has incredibly elaborate etching that delivers a look like no other guitar. Its tone is full and articulate with nice sustain. The stock humbuckers are more than sufficient, but it would be easy to upgrade with after-market pickups. In fact, all of the hardware/parts get the job the done, but all the components are easily replaceable if desired. As for setup, it's a great player. The action is low and inviting, and the intonation is right. Notes ring out as you need them to, up and down the fingerboard.
This 2000s Raven West Guitars LP Custom shows moderate playwear, especially to the pickguard and the areas around each strap button. Nevertheless, it has no history of damages, repairs, or issues. Just a good-sounding, good-playing electric guitar at a good price. Road Runner hardshell case included.
