There's nothing quite like the lush, enormous sound of a 12-string guitar. Because the 12-string sounds big, there's an unfair assumption that the guitar itself should be big, too. Even though the 12-string market is dominated by jumbos and dreadnoughts, there's a sweet subtlety to small-body 12ers. The smaller size can bring about more balance, adding a different tonality and layering to the rich harmonic 12-string experience.

Taylor's 562ce produces rich 12-string tones, but in an easy-playing, small-body package. This model features a lap-friendly Grand Concert body with a 12-fret neck and a cutaway for expanded access into the upper register. The body measures 19-1/2" inches long, and the lower bout is only 15" across. Although it's a regular depth (4-1/8"), it feels small and manageable. And on top of that, it's a short 24-7/8" scale, and the nut measures only 1-7/8", too. But of course, it's a 12-string! This all combines to make a 12-string guitar that simply doesn't feel massive.

This 2016 562ce produces lush, full 12-string sounds that can be massive and powerful when you dig in. But with an all-mahogany 12-fret body, this 2018 562ce 12-String possesses a sweet richness when played softly that expands on what you can typically do with a 12-string. This Taylor model is the fingerstyle player's answer to the 12-string question. Sure, it still sounds great for strumming, but mahogany's natural compression and woody character shine with a lighter, fingerstyle touch. Add in the cutaway and Taylor's Expression System ES2 electronics, and this 2018 562ce brings a lot to the table.

This 2018 Taylor 562ce 12-String has been played and enjoyed, but it finds us in nice condition all around. There is some superficial playwear and some hanger rash on the back of the headstock, but fortunately no cosmetic dings or blemishes that are too offensive (see photos). It is setup with Extra Light (.010-.047) 12-String strings, which allows for nice, playable action. The Shaded Edgeburst finish looks gorgeous on top of the Mahogany grain, and we love how the tortoise-pattern binding accents the darker color. The 562ce was designed with understated Ivoroid inlays, and they don't distract you from the beautiful finish. This is a great-playing Taylor 12-string, and you'll be impressed by the sound and feel of a small-body 12er. It includes its original Taylor hardshell case.
