In 1985, luthier Paul Reed Smith started producing factory-made guitars, and over the next two decades, the cutting-edge, innovative PRS designs permanently changed the electric guitar industry. Initially introduced that first year, the Custom 24 is the definitive original PRS model.
When it was first released, the Custom 24 was unlike any other production model on the market, and it remains a formidable tool with stylish looks to match. It combines PRS' signature high-end details into one extremely versatile, expressive guitar that covers a vast array of sounds and applications. The Custom 24 features a solid mahogany body with a Flame Maple top, a 24-fret set neck, an in-between 25" scale length (not long, not short), two humbucker pickups, Paul's innovative tremolo system, and a five-way rotary selector switch.
This Custom 24 was made in 2007, and it features a stunning 10-Top in eye-catching Scarlet Red. Paul Reed Smith's signature "Birds in Flight" inlays guide the way to all 24 frets on the Rosewood fingerboard. In 2007, PRS was using locking Schaller tuners, and this Custom 24 is outfitted with a HFS Treble humbucker in the bridge position and a Vintage Bass humbucker in the neck. The rotary switch lets you explore both humbucker and single coil sounds, so you're able to cover a lot of territory. The solid construction provides sustain and richness, but there's still some response and resonance to it.
This 2007 PRS Custom 24 shows some minor playwear and signs of use, but it's in impressive condition for its age. There are some minor bumps around some of the edges (see photos), but nothing too severe. True to the Paul Reed Smith reputation, it plays smooth and easy; it practically plays itself. With the 5-way rotary switch, 24 frets, and a tremolo, this guitar provides a wide range of expression. It's like a blank canvas. The contours of the body feel just right, and it's a nice weight, too—8 lb 1.8 oz without the tremolo arm. It includes its original hardshell case, tremolo arm, instructions, warranty registration, and adjustment tools.
