In 1985, luthier Paul Reed Smith started producing factory-made guitars, and over the next two decades, the cutting-edge, innovative PRS designs permanently changed the electric guitar industry. The initial set-neck, all-mahogany model was known simply as the "PRS," but it was renamed the "Standard 24" in 1987.

This Standard 24 was made in 1996. It features the classic double-cutaway contoured PRS body, carved from solid Mahogany. For pickups, it has a Vintage Bass and Vintage Treble humbucker pickups that can both be coil-tapped for a wide range of sounds. This one originally had the PRS 5-way rotary switch, but the previous owner replaced it for a more straightforward 3-way switch. With an in-between 25" scale length (not long, not short), this Standard 24 is like a blank canvas.

True to the PRS reputation, all of the details are geared towards stability, usability, and delivering a wider rage of expression. Paul's innovative tremolo system allows you to dive-bomb and get out there without knocking the guitar out of tune. Locking Schaller tuners help quite a bit, too. All in all, this is a guitar that can keep up with you all night and delivery great tone for whatever sound you need.

This 1996 Paul Reed Smith Standard 24 features a gloss Jet Black finish, and although the model typically comes with dots, the fingerboard has the PRS Birds inlays. This guitar has been played over the years, so it shows some scuffs, scratches, and general signs of use (see photos). It plays very nicely with low action that makes it a breeze to stretch out across all 24 frets. This PRS Standard 24 includes its original hardshell case, as well as the original rotary switch and wiring harness.
