Since we started hanging Collings guitars on the wall, the OM2H model has remained the most popular Collings in our shop. And that's for good reason—the OM2H produces balanced, complex tone that shines across many different genres. Its accurate, immediate response—paired with comfortable, small-body feel and smooth playability—appeal to a wide variety of playing styles.
What happens when you build an OM2H from the finest tonewoods available? You end up with something that is truly special. This 2008 Collings OM2HBaaA features an Adirondack Top and AA-grade Brazilian Rosewood back and sides. It is a superlative Orchestra Model—balanced, tons of headroom, and a pretty sound that shines in every setting.
At one time, Brazilian Rosewood was available as an option on the Collings price list, but the Brazilian upgrade hasn't been offered for a number of years. Because of that, used Collings with Brazilian Rosewood are hard to find. Many have stunning AAA-grade backs, but the elaborate figure—which is sometimes actually stump wood—isn't what you find on prewar guitars. Vintage Brazilian guitars typically have tighter, "wavy hair" grain, and that's exactly what you find on this OM2H. Make no mistake—the figure is still beautiful and the book match is right on, but the AA grade is more subtle and prewar appropriate.
This 2008 OM2HBaaA has been played and used in the studio, but it finds us in excellent condition. The previous owner ordered it custom from Collings, and he asked Collings to remove the pickguard. From the right angle, you can see the outline of where it was, and fortunately the top isn't overly worn from aggressive picking. On the upper frets (15 onward), the nickel fret ends have turned a little green. In addition to some play wear, there are some scratches by the end block and on the back (see photos). There is also a strap button installed on the heel.
This 2008 Collings OM2HBaaA includes a Calton case and a case cover from Colorado Case Company. A guitar of this caliber deserves only the best! The bomb-proof case is a nice bonus, and considering the value, it completes the package. This OM2HBaaA has a 1-3/4" nut width, but everything else is true to catalog specs.
