The Modern Deluxe Series adds ultra-modern, 21st-century technology to time-tested, iconic Martin designs. The result is an entirely new take on Martin.
The D-18 Modern Deluxe packs cutting-edge features and modern technology into the classic Martin mahogany dreadnought. The D-18 Modern Deluxe is a 14-fret dreadnought built with a torrefied Sitka Spruce (VTS) top and Mahogany back and sides. Paying homage to the storied tradition of Martin guitars, it features a dovetail neck joint and natural protein glue constriction—just like the prewar masterpieces that came before it!
There are many 21st-century specs that set the Modern Deluxe series apart from other Martins. The Carbon Fiber bridge plate, the LiquidMetal bridge pins, the assymetrical Vintage Deluxe neck profile, gold frets—just to name a few! But when it comes down to it, all of the specs come together to make a great-sounding, great-playing Martin dreadnought. This D-18 Modern Deluxe dates to 2022, and it produces a powerful—yet versatile—full-bodied sound that is steeped in richness and mahogany nuance.
This D-18 Modern Deluxe has been played over the years, and that has helped it develop a responsive feel and open sound. But it shows some scuffs and signed of use, especially around the edges of the headstock and the body (see photos). It is outfitted with an LR Baggs Anthem pickup, and the previous owner installed a strap button on the heel (the larger size for Dunlop-style strap locks). This D-18 Modern Deluxe plays really nicely with a 1-3/4" nut width and low action with Medium (.013-.056) strings.
