A division of Circle Strings in Burlington, Vermont, Iris Guitar Company is a small team of highly-skilled and seasoned luthiers who are dedicated to building a modern instrument that captures vintage-inspired tone and aesthetics. Iris guitars are handmade using a combination of state of the art techniques and old-world craftsmanship.

Named after Iris co-founder Adam Buchwald, the AB Model was introduced in 2020. Modeled after the J-185, the AB is an impressive modern interpretation of the small jumbo template. The AB Model has more balance than a dreadnought, but it is not lacking in bass presence, power, or volume. Because of the tighter waist, it responds just as well to a light touch as it does to cranking out chords.

We ordered this AB (serial #690) with a Burst finish, Ivoroid binding, and a Firestripe pickguard. It features hand-scalloped Adirondack Braces, a Sitka Spruce top, and Mahogany back and sides. The AB is a natural choice for recording, but because of its versatility, it's also great on stage, especially for player who alternate between delicate fingerpicking and heavy strumming in the same set. It has a 25" scale length and a 1-3/4" nut width, and the string spacing is 2-5/16" at the bridge.
