"Every Speedway amp begins its life as a previously owned example and may wear its unique history on the outside. Each one is painstakingly 're-crafted' by hand, resulting in a one-of-a-kind audio experience. May it inspire you!" -Speedway Electric.

This Speedway Electric amp began its life as a Gretsch G5222 Electromatic amp, which is the Gretsch-branded version of the ever-popular Champion 600. While these little lunchbox amps were built with seriously-cool cosmetics, their anemic, underpowered tone left a lot to be desired. Because of that, they've become a popular mod template, but in this case, Speedway Electric has gone much further by totally rebuilding the circuit with premium components to deliver refined, nuanced tone.

This Speedway Electric Grestch G5222 Electromatic Re-Build features a brand new turret board made from all-new, boutique components, and it employs the classic tweed-era 5F1/5F2 circuit. Although its output is only rated at 5 watts, it rips and roars across the room! With impressive clean headroom, it saturates beautifully at higher volumes, delivering smooth, natural overdriven tone that is rich in harmonic content. While its single volume/single tone control may not seem to provide much adjustability, the straightforward setup actually delivers a wide sonic landscape that allows you to tailor the overall sound and EQ to your liking. Plus, it has a switch underneath the panel that allows you to remove the Negative Feedback loop, which pushes the amp wide open. In addition to totally rebuilding the original electronics, Speedway also replaced the baffle, the grille cloth, leather handle, and lacquered the tweed so it looks sharp and will last for posterity.
