At the 2019 NAMM show in Anaheim, the Martin OM-28 Modern Deluxe was one of the most impressive new offerings we saw on the convention-center floor. Packed with deluxe custom appointments and modern technology, the OM-28 Modern Deluxe is a new take on Martin Vintage.
Thanks to its torrefied Sitka Spruce Vintage Tone System (VTS) top, dovetail neck joint, and natural protein glue construction, the OM-28 Modern Deluxe produces the rich, refined Martin tone that has inspired generations. Its voice is robust, but also subtle when you want it to be. It projects across the room with quick, punchy response, and it remains nicely balanced across the register. In many ways, it sounds like a vintage Martin that has been played-in and enjoyed for decades.
While its tone and timeless Martin aesthetics (ahem, herringbone purfling) are familiar to Martin fans, the OM-28 Modern Deluxe also employs ultra-modern, 21st-century technology such as a titanium truss rod, Liquidmetal bridge pins, and a composite carbon fiber bridge plate that boosts volume without adding weight. Unlike other Martins, this guitar also sports a new neck shape that is slightly asymmetrical for maximum hand comfort up and down the fretboard.
With gorgeous Flamed Maple binding, durable gold frets, gold open-gear tuners, and a 1930s-style inlaid script logo on the headstock, the OM-28 Modern Deluxe is unlike anything in Martin's standard production to date. With this guitar, sophistication and performance come standard.
