The prewar Hawaiian slide guitars of Herman Weissenborn are unique in sound and construction, and Gold Tone offers impressive modern-day interpretations of his designs. With the GT-Weissenborn, Gold Tone has accurately replicated the distinctive tone and vibe of a real Weissenborn.
The reasonably-priced GT-Weissenborn features all Sapele construction, and it produces warm, resonant slide tones that satisfy the Weissenborn jones. Gold Tone instruments show sincere build quality, and instruments like this one can fill an intriguing niche in any collection. The unique timbre of the GT-Weissenborn will be great for songwriting, but in the studio, it will also be your go-toinstrument when you need 8 bars of slide sounds. It even includes a gig bag.

Because of the Weissenborn guitar's original construction, care must be taken to use the correct tunings and string gauges in order to avoid bridge, bracing, or neck issues. The strings supplied (gauged .014, .018, .026w, .034w, .044w, .056w) allow for G (DGDGBD), D (DADF#AD), and similar tunings. With these strings, the GT-Weissenborn will not tolerate the excessive tension exerted by E tuning (EBEG#BE), Dobro G tuning (GBDGBD), or similar tunings. The total string tension exerted on ANY Gold Tone Weissenborn guitar should be no more than 165 lbs. when tuned to standard (A440) pitch.
