The next installment in Martin's ArtGuitar concept, the D-17 Squadron uses patented technology to digitally print artwork directly into the lacquer, so it's the same thickness and material as regular guitar finish. It's nerdy, next-level technology that adds striking artwork without dampening or hindering the guitar's sound.

The D-17 Squadron commemorates the legendary American Volunteer Group. Known as "The Flying Tigers," the AVG were an elite group of pilots who flew P-40s in the Pacific theatre of World War II. Inspired by a painted shark mouth one pilot spotted in a newspaper, the toothy grin nose art on the Flying Tigers' planes is instantly recognizable, and Robert Goetzl's interpretation of it gives the D-17 Squadron a look and vibe unlike any other guitar.

The D-17 Squadron is a collectible piece of WWII ephemera, and sure, it will resonate with any aviation enthusiast—but it's so much more than that! The D-17 Squadron starts as a great-sounding dreadnought deserving of the "C.F. Martin & Co." decal on the headplate. It features a Sitka Spruce top and Mahogany back and sides—a time-tested wood complement for rich Martin tone.
