Crafted from the finest tonewoods available—premium Flamed Eastern Maple and lightweight Honduran Mahogany—the Collings CL is built for tone.
The Collings CL (short for "City Limits") is constructed from all solid woods, and that maximizes acoustic resonance, yielding wide dynamic range and a touch-sensitive feel. A carefully hand-set mortise and tenon neck joint brings tonal complexity and sustain. This brand new CL Deluxe (serial #231563) features a stunning Flame Maple top in Iced Tea Sunburst, accented by all of the slick "Deluxe" details. In your hands, the figure in the top is intense, and it has a three-dimensional quality as it shifts and flashes in different light settings. This guitar looks so good you could spend an afternoon just staring at it, but the real fun begins after you plug it in.
For pickups, we ordered this CL Deluxe with upgraded ThroBak MXV ER-Custom humbuckers. These pickups communicate the guitar's natural harmonic content beautifully, and they produce tones that are faithful to the original PAF design. While the CL sounds great with the standard-spec Lollars, the ThroBaks are a better fit for the classic late-'50s character and vibe. With these pickups, this Collings will smoke any "Burst" that it stands its way. It has so much more depth and dimension. This CL Deluxe is deeply expressive and touch-sensitive. The flexible wiring harness delivers usable tones that shine in every setting.
