The Chelli Brown-Out is a tribute to the sought-after "brownface" amplifiers made in the early '60s. Featuring vintage-appropriate components and point-to-point wiring, the "Brown-Out" delivers that rich, reedy "brown" tone—somewhere in between the crunchy tweed sound of earlier '50s designs and the clean tones of the mid-'60s.
The Brown-Out packs plenty of clean headroom, but it breaks up when you want it to. And when it does shift into overdrive, it is smooth and not as raunchy as earlier '50s designs. Because the Brown-Out has a 12" speaker instead of the traditional 10", it also has tight, well-defined bass presence. The speaker is a Weber 12A125A, which is an excellent modern recreation of the Jensen P12Q Alnico-magnet design. It gives you the smooth compression you'll never get from ceramic magnet.
The soft bias-driven tremolo is one of the reasons "brownface" amps are so treasured, and Chelli's interpretation of this hypnotic effect is everything you could want it to be. This amp's tremolo is lush, and it will add a new layer of musicality to your sound. Footswitch included!
