Gold Tone's "Folkternative" series seeks to combine interesting elements of different folk instruments to create intriguing configurations that feel familiar but are strikingly new. The resulting instruments bring new sounds and directions that provide new inspiration.
The Gold Tone Banjola+ expands on the banjo's tonal vocabulary by adding a traditional 5-string neck to the resonant wood body of a mandola. The Banjola is lightweight and easy to play, and its design creates a totally different sound from a regular banjo. Its tear-drop body features an oval sound hole, a solid Sitka Spruce top, and stained Curly Maple back and sides. Its tone favors the warmer register of the banjo sound, and it is expressive and responsive like a fine acoustic guitar.
Plus, the Banjola+ has a passive bridge-mounted pickup for easy amplification, so it's ready for the stage and the studio. We ordered this one with a scooped neck to facilitate traditional frailing, clawhammer, and old-time playing styles. Padded Gig Bag included!
