With the I-30 LC, Collings takes the concept of a double-cutaway, fully hollow electric and builds it with the same attention to acoustic response and construction that built the Collings reputation. The lightweight, trestle-braced body draws on the lessons learned from the I-35 and Statesman LC, with the brace structure coupling the neck and tail block for strength, resonance, and efficient transfer of energy through the instrument. The result is a hollowbody that has the responsiveness and dynamic character of an acoustic instrument while remaining focused enough for electric playing.
The I-30 LC is traditionally built with P90s, but this I-30 LC is an especially interesting custom spec with humbuckers, built in 2026 with a Dark Cherry Sunburst finish and a striking set of appointments. Split parallelogram inlays adorn the ebony fingerboard, while the peghead carries Collings' distinctive broken glass inlay. Tortoise binding wraps the body, neck, and peghead, giving the guitar a vintage-inspired, high-end appearance that stays true to Collings' clean, precise aesthetic.
Instead of the stock P90s, this 2026 Collings I-30 LC is equipped with a pair of ThroBak '57 Steelhead MXV humbuckers. These pickups lend a somewhat different voice that retains the lively acoustic character of the hollowbody design while delivering powerful, touch-sensitive humbucker growl. The symmetric arched top and back respond readily to a player's picking dynamics, and the trapeze tailpiece contributes to the relaxed feel that is characteristic of the model. Plugged in, the Steelhead MXVs bring a broad, articulate sound to the I-30 platform, delivering a versatile take on the design.
This I-30 LC is very gently used and remains in excellent condition with only minor signs of play (see photos). For players drawn to a hollowbody Collings, this guitar offers something outside the standard P90 configuration, along with a well-executed set of visual appointments.
