After more than 30 years of building guitars exclusively in Canada, Jean Larrivée established a state-of-the-art facility in Oxnard, California, in 2001. In the early days, this new facility allowed Larrivée to explore new avenues and produce greater numbers of guitars with the same level of quality and workmanship that built the company's reputation. In 2013, Larrivee ultimately closed the doors of its Canadian operations to concentrate all of its production in its California location.
Built in Oxnard, California earlier this year, this 2025 OM-40 represents Larrivée’s “Legacy Series” approach—all-solid tonewoods, refined craftsmanship, and a stripped-down aesthetic that focuses on tone and playability instead of flashy details. This 2025 OM-40 features a Sitka spruce top with Mahogany back and sides, finished in a smooth satin lacquer that feels fast and organic under the hands. The OM body shape offers a perfect balance between clarity and warmth, and this OM-40 has crisp articulation and strong midrange presence. It’s a responsive guitar with a quick, clean attack and a reasonable amount of volume, making it equally suited for flatpicking, fingerstyle, or vocal accompaniment.
Based on Jean's original designs, Larrivée’s Scalloped hybrid bracing design contributes to the OM-40’s overall balance—tight low end, clear trebles, and an even response across the spectrum. The mahogany neck has a comfortable “round C” profile with a 1-3/4" nut width and 25.5" scale, offering a familiar feel. An Ebony fingerboard and bridge provide smooth playability and a refined touch that aligns the guitar’s understated style
This 2025 Larrivée is in excellent condition with minimal signs of play and use (see photos). It’s a lively, open-sounding OM that delivers the kind of balance and versatility that built Larrivée's reputation. This Larrivée is ideal for players seeking an artfully-crafted, all-solid wood guitar at a working musician’s price. It includes its original hardshell case.
