The square-shouldered 14-fret rosewood dreadnought may be the most popular acoustic guitar design in the world, yet somehow Collings elevates this iconic template to a totally new level. With tonal clarity to match the warmth and depth of the dreadnought, the Collings D2H is cutting, robust, and powerful, but it also remains sweet and subtle when you want it to be. In many ways, the D2H is a guitar that seems to do everything well.
The Traditional Series reflects Bill Collings’ desire to revisit the voicing and responsiveness of the great pre-war flat-tops. Built with pre-war–style scalloped bracing and an ultra-thin nitrocellulose lacquer finish, these guitars are more open and dynamic than standard Collings models, and they have a quick attack and rich, rounded mids. The lighter build and careful hand-voicing create a tonal profile that feels broken-in from day one, emphasizing warmth and resonance while retaining the signature Collings clarity.
This 2024 D2H MR A T S pushes that concept to the limit with top-tier tone wood. Pairing Madagascar Rosewood back and sides with an Adirondack Spruce top, this D2H MR A T S produces intense, articulate tones that rival the refined prewar sound. Madagascar Rosewood offers deep, complex overtones and focused midrange presence similar to Brazilian, and the Madagascar used on this D2H shows stunning grain figure. Adirondack Spruce was the top wood used on all the iconic relics of the '30s, and it provides exceptional dynamic range and power. Together, these high-end woods yield a commanding yet refined dreadnought voice—rich, glassy highs over a full, articulate bass. The Traditional Satin finish complements the tone beautifully, enhancing resonance while giving the guitar a smooth, non-reflective feel under the hands.
This D2H MR A T S is in excellent condition and includes its original Collings deluxe hardshell case. It has been played, so it shows some minor play and wear and we've done our best to capture the cosmetics in the photos. With its premium tonewoods, Traditional-Series construction, and Satin finish, it’s a rare opportunity to experience the D2H platform at the highest level. This Collings is a responsive and expressive instrument, but it's also a modern heirloom built for players who want the absolute best from a rosewood dreadnought. Strung with medium gauge strings (.013-.056), the action is sitting about where we would expect from the Collings factory—low and inviting, but still enough room to dig in. This one has a cutthrough saddle and a 1-3/4" nut width. The previous owner installed strap button the neck heel.
