Local guitar-builder Alder & Main was born just a few blocks down the road from the shop in Telluride, Colorado. In their condo's parking garage, husband-and-wife duo Jamie and Christianna Catchpole began experimenting with fine tone woods and exploring their own intriguing guitar designs. Now relocated to a proper wood shop in nearby Norwood, Colorado, Alder & Main have honed their craft. Using the finest materials and components available, each Alder & Main guitar is built by hand with the utmost care and attention to detail, right here in the San Juan Mountains of Southern Colorado.
The "Leslie" body features a comfortable, smallish-size semi-hollow body with a single cutaway. Leslie #4 was constructed from an Ash body and a Spalted Maple top. A precisely-cut Alder leaf serves as a sound port/f-hole on the bass side. This Leslie is a naturally resonant instrument, and that woody character translates nicely into its amplified sound. It features a Maple neck with a Maple fingerboard and black inlays. It has a clever neck joint with an extra large neck plate for added stability.
For pickups, two Lollar dB Humbuckers offer high output without the higher compression and muddiness often associated with this style of pickup. They deliver top end harmonics that cut through without sounding harsh.
Leslie #4 has a unique natural finish with subtle silver accents and grain-filler—it's an extremely cool, look you won't find from the big corporate guitar companies. This Leslie is everything you could want from a one-of-a-king custom guitar made by hand by an independent builder right here in Southwest Colorado.
