Yamaha says the Revstar’s curvy lines and classic aesthetics are influenced by the utilitarian British Café racer motorbikes of the '60, which explains the tough no-frills attitude to this sleek line of guitars. With its dramatic double-cutaway body, the Revstar has a set mahogany neck that plays fast and smooth all the way up to the 22nd fret.
The Revstar RS502T features two YGD P-90 pickups that provide plenty of punch, bite, and sizzle. These P-90s use Alinco V magnets, so they're voiced to produce more of a vintage rock-n-roll sound. With the volume control wide open, they are rough and aggressive. But as you roll back on the volume and tone, they mellow out and produce sweeter, softer tones. Plus, the tone knob is a push-pull Dry switch that acts as a passive filter to cut out low frequencies. It creates the affect of a coil tap circuit, even though the pickups are single coils.
All of the hardware and details of the RS502T are utilitarian and fit for the job. It's a hard-working guitar at a price working musicians can afford. It plays smooth and easy, and the set neck/solid-body setup provides sustain and reliability.
This 2021 Yamaha Revstar RS502T sports the Black finish, which looks tuxedo-ed out with cream pickup covers, binding, and pickguard. The brushed aluminum hardware also provides elegant accents. It shows some minor play wear, but it is in excellent condition all around with no dings, scratches, repairs, or issues. It includes a hardshell case.
