In 1978, Takamine revolutionized the sound of the amplified acoustic guitar with new under-saddle pickup technology. Since then, they have consistently produced cutting-edge acoustic-electric designs at reasonable prices. It's no wonder you see so many Takamines on stage, in the hands of a wide variety of players.

The model name may be a little clunky, but the Takamine TSP148NC is an interesting hybrid acoustic-electric that combines a thinline body with a nylon  classical neck. Thinline bodies are a great choice for acoustic-guitars because 1) they're super comfortable, and 2) the thinner body can help mitigate feedback concerns. Nevertheless, you rarely see a thinline with a wide classical neck set up for nylon strings.

Handcrafted in Japan, the TSP148NC features a classical-appropriate solid Cedar top, and its Sapele back is gently arched. Thanks to the design, its acoustic output is impressive and nicely balanced. But like many Takamines, it truly shines plugged in. It would be a great choice for any nuanced classical or flamenco guitarist who needs to plug in, but it also provides an interesting tool for curious steel-string players looking to expand their tonal palette. Thanks to the thinline design, it is pedal-friendly, too, so you can explore all sorts of new sonic landscapes.

This 2020 Takamine TSP148NC is gently used and shows minimal signs of play and use. There is a little hanger stand wear to the back of the neck that only shows up at certain light angles (see photos). It causes no effect on playability or feel, but it's visible when the light catches it right, and from other angles it disappears entirely.

The previous owner was diligent about maximizing the setup, so this TSP148NC has very low, inviting action. It plays smooth fast all the way down the neck, and it rings out clear and true across the register. The Cedar top gives it a nice dynamic, expressive quality. It's a fantastic hybrid guitar that would add to any guitarist's quiver. For the right player, it could be everything you never knew you needed.

This 2020 Takamine TSP148NC includes its original soft-shell case.
