In 1985, luthier Paul Reed Smith started producing factory-made guitars, and over the next two decades, the cutting-edge, innovative PRS designs permanently changed the electric guitar industry. The Paul’s Guitar is the realization of Paul’s latest discoveries surrounding tone. It represents Paul’s vision not only as a guitar maker, but as a guitar player who needs versatile stage and studio-ready gear that can achieve all the right tones.
"I don't just like the newest version of my guitar, I love it. With these new pickups, I can move from a strong bridge pickup to a very clear, "whoopy" neck pickup - you can hear every note – by just setting the mini-toggles and using the 3-way as normal. It’s a highly musical and very usable setup. This guitar has clear, spanky single coils when you split the pickups but a very full soapbar quality when they are in humbucking mode. It’s just beautiful." - Paul Reed Smith
This 2020 PRS Paul's Guitar sports a custom Metallic Blue finish. To be fair, the color came out a little more green/teal, and there's no metallic flake or sparkle. But regardless, the result is a striking color you don't see every day. This PRS is a classy guitar that will get noticed on stage. Mahogany body, Maple top, and even a Honduran Rosewood fingerboard with "Brushstroke" bird inlays.
It is outfitted with two PRS TCI (Tuned Capacitance and Inductance) treble and bass pickups. Two mini-toggle switches allow you to put each pickup in humbucking or true single-coil mode. While some humbuckers sound thin when coil tapped, the TCIs remain full-sounding, like a proper single coil. This gives you wide open versatility, and the switches are more straightforward and faster on stage than push/pull knobs.
This 2020 Paul's Guitar shows some minor play wear, but it is gently used all around. The worst is a couple of scuffs on the edges of the headstock (see photos). It is setup with low, approachable action, and the frets are pristine. It's resonant and lightweight, too, at 7 lbs 3 oz. It includes its original case, and it's ready to rock out!
