Santa Cruz Guitar Company isn't like any other builder, and the OO-Skye isn't like any other guitar. When Richard Hoover started building Santa Cruz guitars in 1976, he sought to push guitar-making to a new level of perfection. At SCGC, the goal is to build the finest, most expressive instruments possible—not to maximize sales or profits. That purity of intention translates into exceptional instruments.
Richard Hoover and his crew at Santa Cruz Guitar Company have a knack for finding the most beautiful tonewoods on the planet. With its standard wood complement of highly-figured Cocobolo and Adirondack Spruce, the Santa Cruz OO-Skye may be the perfect reflection of that.
Thanks to the premium wood selection, this model produces complex, inspiring tone that is a fitting tribute to its namesake: Portland-based instrumentalist Eric Skye. With Eric's playing and versatility in mind, the OO-Skye was designed for the excruciatingly accurate and sophisticated techniques of the most demanding fingerstyle players.
This 2019 OO-Skye (serial #1065) is in excellent condition with no history of repairs or issues. It shows some minor playwear and signs of use, but is free of severe dings, unfortunate scratches, or cosmetic damage (see photos). It features the standard specs including a 1-13/16" nut width, and this one has a pickguard, just in case you might want to dig in! Like most 00 size guitars, it sports a comfortable 24.9" scale length, but its body is slightly deeper to add more bass presence and power. Hot hide glue construction and scalloped Adirondack Spruce braces provide quick, accurate response. Its tone is much louder and more refined than your average small body, and it packs a huge dynamic range that allows your right hand technique to deeply influence the tone.
This 2019 OO-Skye is an inspiring guitar with articulate, nuanced tone. Used Santa Cruz guitars don't come around too often, but here's a great 12-fret from one of the country's top builders and it's in need of a new home! Original Ameritage case included.
