As early as 1915, Martin began experimenting with ukulele designs, and in 1917, they released their first official ukulele catalog. The first model listed was a a Style 1—an all-mahogany soprano ukulele with 12-frets clear of the body. Since then, Martin ukuleles have been every bit as reliable as Martin guitars. Over the last 103 years, few builders have produced ukuleles on the same level of quality as C.F. Martin.
With its all-mahogany body and simple, unadorned design, the Martin S1 Uke pays homage to those original Style 1s of 100 years ago. It is a fantastic-sounding soprano ukulele with a warm, playful sound. Unlike most ukuleles, the S1 Uke actually has a genuine dovetail neck joint—just like a good Martin 6-string.
This 2016 Martin S1 Uke is in excellent condition, and it includes its original gig bag. It shows some playwear, and it has a small ding on the edge of the lower bout (see photos).
