Its smooth, dynamic tone has inspired generations of players across a variety of genres and playing styles. Not many guitars have attracted such a diverse group of players. That's because the ES-335 performs beautifully in every setting. It's a natural fit for jazz and fusion, but it can just as easily delve into the blues, hard rock, and beyond.

This Gibson ES-335 was made in Memphis, Tennessee in 2016. While it borrows heavily from the original '60s specs, it is not a "historic" model so it enjoys the best of both worlds—honoring the best of the vintage icons while optimizing the design with modern precision. It features a Satin Faded Cherry finish, paired with the block inlays that became standard on 335s starting in 1962. With laminate Maple/Poplar/Maple construction and Gibson Burstbucker pickups under the hood, this 2016 ES-335 delivers classic semi-hollow Gibson tone, and it's a tool built to perform at the highest level. Nice weight, too, to at 8 lbs 1.5 oz.

This 2016 Gibson Memphis S-335 shows some minor signs of play and use, especially on the bass edge of the body where the satin finish has been rubbed a little shiny. There are some minor surface scratches and scuffs on the back from buttons or zippers. As is typical of Gibsons from this era, the lacquer is checked around the inlays on the peghead (see photos). The setup is low and very playable. The nut measures 1-11/16", and the neck profile is a medium C that feels just a touch bigger than the '60s slim-taper profile (but no where as chunky as some of the late '50s profiles).

The Satin Faded Cherry finish pays homage to vintage Gibsons, but this ES-335 is a something different, and it was built with the modern precision that set the Gibson Memphis reputation. If high-gloss finishes feel sticky to you—or if you think they look too flashy—the Satin feels right at home. The blocks are a nice touch of elegance, and the Bursbuckers—paired with the modern neck profile and medium-jumbo frets—offer an elevated playing experience you won't get from an old one. This 2016 Gibson Memphis ES-335 Satin includes its original hardshell case, Certificate of Authenticity, and paperwork.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0080/2930/6939/files/2016GibsonMemphisES-335_10346710_-Detail05.jpg?v=1787073355
