With its distinctive offset body and two rectangular pickups, the Fender Jazz Bass has been an icon of the low end since it rolled out in 1960. When compared to the deep and powerful sound of the Precision Bass, the Jazz Bass produces a tighter, more focused sound with richer midrange and treble detail. This versatile tone has been a tremendous influence on music—specifically the low end of the spectrum—and we are thankful for it!
The American Standard carries on the Jazz Bass tradition with refined modern touches. This 2013 American Standard J Bass pays homage to the '60s original, but it was built with modern precision to be a hard-working, reliable tool of the trade. It features a contoured Alder body with a classic three-tone sunburst finish, two jazz pickups, and the traditional J electronic controls. Independent volume controls let you blend the two pickups in any combination, and the tone control lets you cut treble for a mellower sound. It's an effective, user-friendly approach that delivers a wide range of versatility. No wonder you see the J Bass in so many different settings.
Just like the originals, the American Standard Jazz Bass is ergonomic and built for comfort. The contoured body feels approachable, and the offset design balances well on a strap. This one weighs in at 8 liz 13.7 oz. If you need a bass you can handle for long sets (or short ones for that matter!), this is an excellent choice. The scale length is 34", and the nut measures 1-1/2", and it has a smooth, playable neck.
This 2013 American Standard Jazz Bass shows some minor wear and signs of use. There are a couple of bumps around the edges, particularly near the output jack and on the top contour, where you arm comes across the body. We've done our best to capture the worst of it. The action is low and inviting with .045-.105 strings, a nice choice for this one. This 2013 American Standard Jazz Bass includes its original hardshell case, which is moderately weathered especially on the headstock end. But it still protects the bass like it should!
