Since 1958, the Gibson ES-335 has defined the sound of the semi-hollowbody archtop electric guitar. Its smooth, dynamic tone has inspired generations of players across a variety of genres and playing styles. Not many guitars have attracted such a diverse group of players. That's because the ES-335 performs beautifully in any setting. It's a natural fit for jazz and fusion, but it can just as easily delve into the blues, hard rock, and beyond.
This ES-335 was made by Gibson Custom in Memphis, Tennessee in 2012. While it borrows heavily from the 1959/60 specs, it is not a "historic" model so it enjoys the best of both worlds—honoring the best of the vintage icons while optimizing the design with modern precision. This Custom Shop ES-335 features a figured Flame Maple top with Gibson's Honeyburst finish. A single-bound fingerboard with dot inlays pay homage to the late-'50s relics, and Gibson's '57 Classics deliver authentic PAF-inspired tone with tons of range.
Despite its age, this 2012 ES-335 arrived to us virtually unplayed. Apart from the typical lacquer checking around the inlays on the peghead, you might not spot it as a used guitar (see photos). It has a touch-sensitive low action, and the slim-taper '60s C neck feels smooth and fast. The 335 is praised for its balance of dynamics and articulation. This 2012 ES-335 absolutely nails that—it has a responsive, acoustic character that cuts through. Via the volume and control knobs, it opens like a wide terrioty of versatility.
This Gibson Memphis Custom ES-335 includes its original hardshell case, Certificate of Authenticity, and paperwork. This is a 335 that will provide every dimension of semi-hollow goodness you've needed in your collection.
