Ibanez started selling effect pedals in 1974 when the company signed an agreement with Maxon to market and distribute their products outside of Japan. In the US, all of the ground-breaking pedals released under the Ibanez name were made in Japan by Maxon.
In 1981, the Maxon-made TS-9 Tube Screamer changed the overdrive game. Its characteristic mid-boosted tone has provided the right amount of dirt and break-up for a wide variety of players. Blues, rock, metal, experimental jazz—you name it, and the Tube Screamer gets it done.
In recent years, the Godlike brand introduced a Maxon-labeled reissue of the OD-9 (the Maxon version of the TS-9). Complete with an NJM 4558D Op Amp, the OD-9 is a true-to-spec reissue of the legendary '80s OD-9/TS-9 circuit. But it also adds true bypass switching for clean, uncolored tone when bypassed. Three simple controls provide a wide range of flexibility.
This 2010s Maxon OD-9 is gently used and functions 100% as it should. The metal nameplate is dented just by the "Maxon" name, and there is soft velcro added to the bottom. In a side by side shootout with the Ibanez reissues, most players would probably choose the smoother sound the OD-9. A useful addition to any pedalboard.
