When the Mira debuted in 2007, it represented something different for PRS—a stripped-down, lightweight American-made workhorse that stepped away from carved maple tops and luxury appointments in favor of straightforward performance and an understated personality. The Mira's smaller double-cutaway body draws more influence from the Santana model than the McCarty shape. The bass edge is still contoured, but it's a flatter top instead of an elaborate carved top. This cuts labor time and also allows for a drop-in pickguard that houses the control harness. All of this delivers a USA-made PRS guitar at a lower price, but because of the design, the Mira captures its own vibe and place at the table.
This Paul Reed Smith Mira was made in 2009, and this one lightweight was constructed from lightweight Korina. With all the parts and hardware, this Mira weighs in at 5 lbs 7.5 oz—just shy of 5.5 lbs! It's pretty impressive. From there, it has a fast neck with PRS' Wide Flat carve, and the Mira humbucker pickups can be coil-tapped with the switch next to the tone control. The coil tap option gives you more versatility than you might expect, and on top of that, it's a 24 fret neck. Needless to say, this 2009 Mira covers a lot of territory!
This 2009 Paul Reed Smith Mira has been played, so it shows some minor signs of use. On the back, there is a ding and a 1"-long scratch worth mentioning. There are a few bumps around the edges, and the wordt is ding to the top edge near the end strap button. There is also a noticeable ding on the back of the neck around the 4th fret. The setup is exceptional—nice and low—and the feel is very expressive with the 25" scale. Fret wear is minimal. One of the pickguard screws has been replaced, but everything else is original.
This 2009 Paul Reed Smith Mira includes its original hardshell case, original paperwork, and hang tag. There’s a dry, articulate quality to the attack, with a broad midrange that helps chords stay defined while single notes carry exceptional clarity and presence. More understated than other PRS guitars, this Mira sports the Moons inlay pattern, which many players prefer to the birds. Locking tuners, proper wraparound tailpiece—this 2009 Mira is a hard-working Paul Reed Smith!
