McPherson Guitars started in 1979 as a quest to achieve a better sounding acoustic guitar. Rather than follow the designs of the past, Matt and Mander McPherson re-examined every portion of the guitar. They found that placing a guitar’s soundhole in the center of the soundboard eliminates a vital area for vibration and resonance. Experimenting with different soundhole locations and bracing patterns led to several technological breakthroughs, all with the goal of increasing tone, projection, and resonance.

This McPherson MG 3.5 was made in 2009. The MG is the original McPherson 6-string jumbo body. It takes the tonal qualities of a dreadnought style guitar and enhances the richness and essence of that big, boomy sound while improving the clarity and articulation. This MG 3.5 features a Port Orford Cedar top and East Indian Rosewood back and sides. McPherson's 3.5 size is 3.5" deep at the end block, and the tapered, shallower body gives the guitar tighter bass and more emphasized mids.

This 2009 McPherson MG 3.5 is in nice condition all around. It has a small ding on the  treble side of the top, near the edge of the lower bout. McPherson's unique soundhole position is intended to increase the flexible surface area on the central part of the instrument. By allowing vibrations from the bridge to travel directly across a longer unencumbered soundboard, there is an increase sustain and resonance.

If you look closely you will see that the fretboard on this McPherson is not connected or glued onto the top of the guitar, similar to some archtop guitars. This cantilevered design allows the top to vibrate and resonate to its fullest potential. Inside the neck is a triangulated system which stabilizes the neck and eliminates the need for adjustment.

This 2009 McPherson MG 3.5 includes its original hardshell case, and it has an LR Baggs pickup installed under the hood. It's an impressive instrument that showcases both McPherson's unique designs and high-level craftsmanship.
