Christian F. Martin was one of the most influential figures in the development of the modern acoustic guitar. In 1833, he said goodbye to the restrictive nature of Germany's violin guilds, moved his family to the United States, and established "C.F Martin & Co." Credited with inventing X-bracing, C.F. Martin founded history's most successful and pivotal guitar manufacturer. Today, Martin Guitar boasts six generations of family ownership. C.F. Martin, IV now sits as president and CEO, and he shows a clear veneration for his family's legacy, often introducing spectacular limited editions to celebrate the company's history.
In 1996, Martin introduced one of its most impressive showpieces to commemorate the 200th anniversary of Christian F. Martin, Sr.'s birthday. Limited to 91 pieces, the C.F. Martin Sr. 200th Anniversary D-45 Deluxe features top-of-the-line abalone detail and Brazilian Rosewood back and sides.
Constructed from some of the finest and most exotic materials available with the highest level of attention to detail, the D-45 Deluxe is an over-the-top, highly collectible piece of Martin history. While it sports most of the expected Style-45 appointments, it also has C.F. Martin's signature inlaid into the 19th fret. Instead of a bone nut and saddle, this one has fossil ivory—every detail is high-end and well-intentioned. Also- it has rare pearl border on the peghead edge and neck—so precise it actually winds around the neck heel. This detail is exceedingly rare, even on Style-45 instruments, and it is a true testament to the level of workmanship that went into this guitar.
This 1996 Martin C.F. Martin Sr. 200th Anniversary D-45 Deluxe Commemorative is #40 in the series. It is in excellent cosmetic condition, and it is 100% original with no history or repairs or issues. It shows minimal play wear, and it sounds utterly fantastic. With characteristic thump and tone that cuts through, this dreadnought is absolutely deserving of the "C.F. Martin" name. It includes its original case and paperwork.
