As early as 1950, Fender became the first company to successfully market solidbody electric guitars. Since then, the two-pickup, single-cutaway Telecaster has remained a simple, yet effective design that delivers versatile tones. There's a reason why players of all genres gravitate towards the Telecaster—its tone is transparent, dynamic, and straightforward. It seems to do everything well.

Of all the various iterations, no Telecaster is celebrated like the 1952 "Blackguard" examples. The Teles made that year are lightweight, and they have an ergonomic neck profile. But they are particularly revered for their bright cutting lead pickup tone. When Fender prototyped their first Vintage Reissues in 1981, it's no surprise they selected 1952 for the first American Vintage Reissue.

This first-year 1982 '52 Telecaster Reissue was made in Fullerton, CA—before Fender relocated production to Corona. As many players and collectors agree, the original Fullerton reissues from 1982 are among the finest guitars Fender has made since Leo sold the brand to CBS in 1965. While other guitars from the '80s feature Floyd Rose tailpieces and overwound humbuckers, this '52 Reissue looks, feels, plays, and sounds every bit as good as the Telecasters made under Leo's direction 30 years earlier.

This '82 AVRI '52 Telecaster has been played and put to the test, and it shows it! It has authentic patina and mojo like a well-loved vintage guitar. Like many of the '50s Blackguards, the finish is smoked out and checked. On the back, there is significant "leather jacker" rub that has tarnished the finish beautifully. There is a chip out of the side of the cutaway, and my goodness—look at the case! If guitars could talk, this '52 Reissue would have countless stories to tell.

On this '52 AVRI Telecaster, the neck pickup was replaced with a custom-wound Tele Neck from Onamac Windery, and the original wiring harness has been replaced with a modern three-way setup. The original pickup and the original control harness are included. Both strap buttons have been replaced with buttons for Dunlop strap buttons.

1982 Fender Fullerton Reissue ’52 Telecaster plays like a dream and feels just about as close to a Blackguard as you can get without blowing your life savings. The setup is excellent, the tone is remarkable, and the vibe is just right.
