With its distinctive offset body and two rectangular pickups, the Fender Jazz Bass has been an icon of the low end since it rolled out in 1960. When compared to the deep and powerful sound of the Precision Bass, the Jazz Bass produces a tighter, more focused sound with richer midrange and treble detail. This versatile tone has been a tremendous influence on music—specifically the low end of the spectrum—and we are thankful for it!

This Fender Jazz Bass sports an F-stamped neck plate with the serial number 286977, which corresponds to 1970. All three of the pots date to the 8th week of 1970, too. It has a bound Rosewood fingerboard with large pearloid block inlays, and its contoured, offset body is finished in the classic Fender three-tone sunburst.

This 1970 Jazz Bass has been played, so it shows plenty of signs of wear and patina. In particular, this finish is worn on the bass edge of the body, and just along the body contour on the back. Also, there are a few spots where chips in the black finish have been filled in with black marker.  But in general, this J Bass finds us in nice shape—no history of repair, damages, or breaks. The bridge plate looks like it may be a replacement, but all of the other parts appear to be original. It includes a pickup cover, but no bridge cover. There are two holes drilled through the pickguard for a thumb rest, and there's also an additional hole drilled through the center of the pickguard.

Of all the basses in the shop, there's nothing quite as smooth and easy playing as this 1970 Jazz Bass. The 1-3/8" nut width makes for an extremely comfortable playing experience, from the 1st fret all the way up the fingerboard. On a strap or in your lap, the ergonomic contours and offset body of the J bass feel just right. The weight is impressive, too—9 lbs 2.1 oz. It includes its original hardshell case with CBS Fender logo.

This 1970 Jazz Bass rips! Such a monster. We love the vibe of the worn three-tone, too. Unmistakable Fender stye, unimitable Fender sound when you plug in.
