Manufactured in the mid-'80s, the DM-3 is the last of its kind: an analog delay pedal produced by Boss. Expanding on the iconic DM-2, the DM-3 adds an additional filter and high-speed noise reduction to the earlier circuit. It also has a direct output that can be used to create a stereo effect.

The made-in-Japan DM-3 has a delay range of 20 ms to 300 ms, and it has three simple controls. "Repeat Rate" controls the delay time; "Echo" sets the output level of the delay effect; and, "Intensity" determines the number of repeats. Within these simple controls, there's a wide array of sounds—from quick slap-back to wide-open, cascading textures of tone.

After this one was made, pedal companies assumed players would prefer the more pristine-sounding repeats of digital delay. But instead, many players gravitate toward the groovy, lo-fi sounds that only analog bucket bridge circuity can produce. When you dial in the right settings, there is a beautiful musical quality to the subtle degradation of the repeats. Also, the self-oscillation—which Boss sought to eliminate from future circuits—has actually provided new soundscapes that have inspired countless musicians

This 1984 Boss DM-3 Delay functions 100% as it should, and it sounds fantastic. There are plenty of paint chips (see photos), and a previous owner removed the rubber bottom in place of heavy-duty velcro. Satisfy your desire for rich, musical delay sounds with the real mccoy!
