The Black Crowes are one of the hardest-hitting and most-influential bands of the last 30 years. They were propelled to critical acclaim and success because of the strength of guitarist Rich Robinson's songwriting. Catchy hooks, inventive open tunings, intricate compositions—Rich penned a string of hits through the '90s and '00s.

In the early days, Rich's go-to songwriter was a 1954 D-28 that was handed down from his father, who played it on stage at the Grand Ole Opry. During the '50s and '60s, Robinson's father was a traveling musician with the Hillbilly Highway and in his folk band, The Appalachians. After inheriting his father’s instrument, Robinson used it to write most of the original Black Crowes songs from the band’s critically-acclaimed studio albums.

The D-28 Rich Robinson is a faithful recreation of Rich's treasured Martin. Crafted with a thin aged satin finish, the D-28 Rich Robinson has an aged Spruce top and East Indian Rosewood back and sides. You'll notice 1950s-appropriate details throughout: Martin’s signature dovetail neck joint, authentic hide glue construction, an ebony fingerboard and bridge, Aged nickel "Waffleback" tuners, Style-28 binding, etc. But of all the '50s specs, the most nuanced and consequential for sound is the rearward-shifted non-scalloped bracing. This helps to balance out the sometimes overwhelming dreadnought bass response, and it gives you tons of volume.

From there, each guitar is aged and relic-ed to replicate the authentic wear and vibe of Rich's D-28. Every scar. And there are some subtle cusom features, too: 1) the hard edges of the bridge wings are rounded off for comfort, and 2) the unique Barrel and Heel neck profile—which is plenty to hang onto!
