Each year at the NAMM show, we collaborate with the Martin Custom Shop to select tone woods and create exclusive guitar designs for Telluride Music Co. Each TMC Exclusive is a one-of-a-kind custom guitar that can only be found at 8,750 ft elevation. Infused with the spirit of Telluride and crafted by the skilled artisans at the Martin Custom Shop, these guitars transcend the ordinary.
We've ordered plenty of OMs, but this year we wanted to order a 000-size guitar with a 24.9" scale. There's a sweetness and subtlety to the shorter scale length, and while it's a natural fit for fingerpicking, the 000 Martin sounds fantastic with a pick, too. At the 2024 NAMM Show, the Custom Shop had a strong supply of Wild Grain East Indian Rosewood, so we dug through the stacks in search of the strongest match. The set we selected is absolutely stunning—the perfect back for a high-end 000-41!
From there, we specified a premium Adirondack Spruce top and 5/16" scalloped Adirondack Spruce braces. The combination of fine rosewood and top-tier spruce gives the guitar a sweet, round sound. The lower string tension makes the response more subtle, and combined with the mid-size 000 body, this Martin is a joy to play. This 000-41 packs incredible sustain, and its tone has body and nuanced character. It sounds amazing brand new, so imagine what is going to sound like after someone puts it through the paces.
Since the Custom Shop lets you style them out, why not have fun? Style-41 top border with a Style-45 rosette and Alternate Torch inlays to guide your way down the fingerboard. On the peghead, we opted for the "Golden Era" style C.F. Martin vertical inlay, which is a minute—but classy—detail. And inside the soundhole, the exclusive "Telluride Music Co." label lets you know this is a special guitar, designed to be a unique individual that will inspire you just like the San Juan Mountains that surround Telluride.
