When the dreadnought hit the scene in the 1930s, its large-body sound changed the game for acoustic guitars. But if your dreadnought doesn't dreadnought enough, consider the Super D! This exciting new release from C.F. Martin & Co. expands the dreadnought's internal air volume by 20%. The result is increased volume, expanded dynamic range, and no shortage of thunderous bass—all while keeping the iconic dreadnought shape intact. This is not a jumbo; the Super D is a dreadnought through and through!

Of the two Super Ds unveiled at NAMM 2026, the Super D-18 impressed us the most. Something about the combination of Spruce and Mahogany works really well with the expanded body size. It's true that some players criticize the D-18 because the Mahogany pushes more mid-range, so the bass can be more restrained than a D-28. Well, the bigger Super D body counteracts that deficiency, while also improving the overall volume and dynamic response. All steeped in Mahogany richness and character. Nevertheless, this Super D-18 doesn't feel that much bigger than a regular dreadnought. At some point, a big guitar is a big guitar, and most players have been surprised that the Super D doesn't feel very different in your hands.

Built to Martin's Standard Series level, the Super D-18 features Golden Era specs that optimize tone, comfort, and style. Under the hood, it sports the same GE Scalloped Spruce top bracing you find on the Modern Deluxe Series. Forward-shifted—just like in the Golden Era—the bracing is voiced to deliver vintage-inspired tone and sustain. From there, the details are classic Martin: Golden Era Modified Low Oval neck profile, 1-3/4" nut width, open-gear Grover tuning machines, Ebony Fingerboard with Diamond Inlay, Golden Era Modern Belly bridge, etc. Everything you could want from a good Martin guitar!
