Released in 1955, the 5E9 Tremolux is the first Fender amplifier that included tremolo. The Tremolux is essentially a redesigned Deluxe—two channels through a 12" speaker with 6V6s in the power section—but it is housed in a larger cabinet. Because of the design tweaks that introduce the tremolo, the Tremolux puts out 15 watts and it has a bit more clean headroom than a Deluxe.

For those who've had the pleasure to plug into one, the original 5E9 Tremolux may be the holy grail of tweed Fender amps. The tremolo is so sweet and musical you won't want to turn it off. When you crank it up, it compresses and fattens just like a good tweed should, but the additional clean headroom makes it more usable for pedals. Plus, it sounds amazing in lower volume settings. While some amps have a "sweet spot," the 5E9 is consistent through all settings..

One secret to its sound may be the cabinet itself. It's taller than a regular Deluxe with a wider open back, and it's still made out of the same solid Pine as the other tweeds. There's a particular resonance and openness—especially in the bass—that you don't hear from other amps.

This 1956 Fender 5E9 Tremolux is in impressive condition for its age. It has been serviced by Chelli Amplification, but it finds us with most of its original parts still functioning 100% as they should. It has a modern grounded three-prong power cable, and the original filter caps needed to be replaced. Nevertheless, Chelli used new Sprague Atom capacitors that he "restuffed" into the paper cardboard covers from the original caps. If you didn't know better, you might think the circuit was all original. From there, it has one changed resistor and a replacement handle. The original tweed is in impressive cosmetic condition, and even though it's a larger cabinet, the solid pine construction keeps it lightweight. Original cover included.

So far, this '56 Tremolux has made every guitar we plug into it sound like a million bucks. It's amazing, really. It has quick, immediate response, and the subtleties of your picking attack produce a wide range of nuanced sounds. Plus, once you tap the footswitch, you won't want to the turn the tremolo off—it sounds so sweet!

Please note: this amplifier is available for in-store pickup only. Sorry!
