After more than 30 years of building guitars exclusively in Canada, Jean Larrivee established a state-of-the-art facility in Oxnard, California, in 2001. In the early days, this new facility allowed Larrivee to explore new avenues and produce greater numbers of guitars with the same level of quality and workmanship that built the company's reputation. In 2013, Larrivee ultimately closed the doors of its Canadian operations to concentrate all of its production in its California location.

Built just last year in 2022, this Larrivee is the limited edition OM-03R "Vine Special." It's the same basic spec as the OM-03R—Sitka/Rosewood Orchestra Model  with 25-1/2" scale—but the Vine Special has upgraded Koa binding and beautiful abalone inlays on the headstock, fingerboard, and bridge. Soundwise, this Larrivee produces a pretty, balanced sound with substantial bass presence for an OM body.

The OM-03R is deeper than many OMs—4-1/4"—and that probably helps it bring out a bit more bass. With a Sitka top and East Indian Rosewood back and sides, it gives the clear, shimmery sound across the register that makes the OM such a versatile template. Even though this guitar was made in 2022, it feels responsive like a broken-in, used guitar. Nevertheless, it's about as clean as you could ask from a used guitar (see photos).

Under the hood, this '22 OM-03R has a factory-installed LR Baggs Stagepro Element pickup. Plugged-in, this system produces clear, natural acoustic sounds. This Larrivee is set up with nice action, and it has a 1-3/4" nut width. It includes its original hardshell case.
